The hull lines were made for exellent escort efficiency. Under the bulbous bow there is a additional skeg fitted to
improve the escort performance up to 50%. Further aft there is a second skeg to enhance the course stability.
The Braveheart has a length of 39,4m and a beam moulded of 13m. The draft is less than 5,75m in spite of the two skegs.
The tugboat is powered by two Wärtsilä 9L26s-diesel each with 2790kW. Each engines turns a stern-mounted Rolls-Royce US 305 z-drive.
The CP (controllable pitch) propellers have diameter of 3m.
This gives the Braveheart a speed of 14,3kts and a bollard pull of 103,3tonnes. There is a bowthruster with a
total thrust of 6,5tons from Rolls-Royce. This bowthruster is directly driven by a 450kW Volvo Penta diesel engine.
The FiFi-system consists of two 1200m3/h FiFi-monitors and a self drenching system.
The doubledrum towing winch was manufactured by Hatlapa. This winch carries on each drum 1000m towing wire with a diameter of 56mm
and develop a towing force of 95tons and a brake load of 220tons. The bowwinch - also made by Hatlapa - has a towing load of 125tons and a break load of
220tons. In front of the bowwinch there is one fairlead in the deck and one fairlead under the bow fender system. Both fairleads are connected by a stainless
steel pipe. These fairlead will be in use for escort towing to keep the towing point as low as possible.
